(a coffee brewing workshop)

I never claimed to be a coffee expert. In fact, if you look back at all my previous coffee reviews, (@brewtallyhonest.ph) you’ll probably notice that I often use the same words to describe what I taste. But ever since I grew fond of this concoction, I thought, "why not make it official?" That’s when I started to look for events or any classes that would allow me to learn more about this drink.

As I continued to dive deeper into the coffee scene, I slowly discovered my admiration for people who treat coffee as a true passion. Just by eavesdropping on passing conversations, I noticed how enthusiastic they were and how much fun they had when they were able to discover new flavors and brewing techniques. After attending a few coffee events in 2025, I realized that the more I experienced these gatherings, the more curious I became. I often wonder "What is it about coffee that makes people connect so deeply with one another?"

That curiosity led me to Plain Sight’s Coffee Brewing Workshop. Plain Sight is a roastery that supplies coffee beans to cafés and home brewers. They don’t just sell beans, they also offer mobile coffee carts for events and host workshops for those who want to learn more about coffee. I had been searching for coffee workshops for a while, but most of them focused on building or running a café business, which wasn’t what I was looking for. All I wanted was to learn the basics and gain knowledge that I could bring with me when exploring new cafés in the future. When I realized this workshop checked all my boxes, I signed up right away.

To put it simply, my overall experience was a blast! The workshop had an intimate setup as there were only the three of us attendees. Our trainer, Misha, was incredibly patient and encouraging. He spoke with warmth, used affirmations often, and created a genuinely safe space for everyone.

As it ends, this workshop made me realize a few important things:

1. Coffee is not just a drink, it’s about connection and shared experiences.

2. Coffee isn’t only about taste; it also engages other senses like smell, sight, and touch, which makes it more personal.

3. Coffee isn’t just about what’s in the cup, but about how different factors and equipment could affect its quality.

However, if there’s one big takeaway from that day, that would be the immense respect I gained for all baristas. I’ve come to appreciate their craft so much more. Just imagine the training they go through, the trial and error involved in creating new recipes, and the dedication it takes to serve great coffee every day. I also deeply admire those who took the risk in opening their own cafés, hoping others will also appreciate the work and passion they pour into what they do.

I consider this workshop my Christmas gift to myself. To be honest, it wasn’t really in my plans for 2025 to learn the science and art of coffee brewing. All I wanted was to share my café experiences and post good photos. But look where I am now.

As I want to learn more and discover what else coffee has to offer, I'll be planning to attend their other classes by next year. Someting to look forward to the new year!☕️✨
