(visiting the Last Lung of Metro Manila)
Arroceros Park has been declared by the as the "Last Lung of Metro Manila" because it is one of the few remaining green spaces in the city. With the capital already congested with buildings and other infrastructures, this park stands as a rare and hidden sanctuary amidst the noise and pollution of the urban life. That’s why it’s reassuring to know that Manila Mayor Isko Moreno recognized its importance and took steps to preserve and protect this space. One prime example of this is when he signed Ordinance no. 8607 declaring Arroceros Park as a "permanent forest park".

When I visited last Sunday, January 18, it felt like entering into a hidden forest tucked away from the city. The noise from passing vehicles suddenly faded into the background, and the surroundings became noticeably quieter. The air felt cleaner, and there was an overwhelming sense of peace. As I looked around, I noticed that many trees had labels tied to their trunks, with detailed information displayed beside them, making the experience both relaxing and educational.
At the center of the park, you'll see a bridge that’s perfect for taking photos. It looks even more aesthetic when sunlight peeks through the tree branches, creating beautiful silhouettes. Below the bridge is a small pond filled with colorful koi fish swimming happily. Judging by their healthy appearance, it’s easy to assume that they are well cared for and properly fed.
At the back of the park, there is a long stretch of pavement where visitors can stroll, exercise, or even film TikTok videos. Benches are scattered throughout the area, and restrooms are easy to find whenever "nature" calls.
The park is easy to navigate, thanks to its designated pathways that guide visitors through the entire area, allowing you to explore without even realizing how much ground you’ve covered.
Despite its relatively small size, Arroceros Park is a perfect place to unwind, clear your mind, and enjoy a moment of peace. Best of all, entrance is free! You only need to sign in with your name and contact details at the security post.

One thing I regret about this experience though is the fact that this park is quite far from where I live. As much as I’d love to visit more often, I really need to set aside time and plan my schedule to come back.
But if you are currently residing near the area and haven’t had the chance to visit yet, I highly encourage you to do so. It’s a wonderful place to refresh, reflect, and reset your mind, just what you need to prepare yourself for another challenging week ahead.
