(focusing not on the gift but on the GIVER.)

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" - Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

Sometimes, God gives us dreams for a season. We pray for them again and again, and when they finally come, we think they’re meant to last a lifetime.

But then, without warning, He takes them away. Suddenly, the dream we held so tightly is gone, and our hearts feel confused, frustrated, or even angry. We scream into the heavens, “Why would You give me this dream if it was only temporary?”

Yet maybe God is asking us to pause and reflect. What has this dream revealed about who we really are? Has this dream made us draw closer to Him, or has it only fed our pride? God is not an ATM that we can just ask for something we want and expect Him to give it right away. Even though He can do that in just a snap (after all, He is God), I think that more than the blessing, He is more interested in our character. If He thinks that we will just become boastful and look down on people, then maybe receiving that blessing may not be good for us after all.

I do believe that God wants our hearts to be ready before He can make our dreams a reality. He wants to prepare us and make sure that our hearts are in the right place. How can He see that? By giving us experiences in our daily life.

The experiences He allows, even the ones that hurt, are meant to teach us. They call us to trust Him and His timing. When we respond with faith, even the darkest days can hold glimpses of His light, and we begin to see that His plans are greater than our dreams.
