(The only Crisostomo Ibbara)
Have you ever found yourself shedding a tear while watching an interview — not out of sadness, but pure admiration? That’s exactly how I felt after watching ToniTalks’ latest interview with the legendary Joel Torre.
It was back in 2004, during my sophomore year of high school, when I first encountered this incredible actor. He portrayed Crisostomo Ibarra in the CCP's (Cultural Center of the Philippines) film adaptation of Noli Me Tangere, and he did so with such excellence that it reignited my childhood dream of becoming an actor. Seeing him bring the character to life made my love for acting burn even brighter.
Since then, I made it a point to follow all his upcoming projects. In every film I watched, his intensity and commitment to his roles never faltered. Every time he appeared on screen, I would take mental notes — noticing every nuance, every minor detail that others might miss at first glance but would eventually leave you surprised once you caught it.
Knowing that he started his career in theater made me admire him even more. Whenever he acts on screen, I don't see himself but instead, I'm seeing the character he is portraying. I have the utmost respect for him; to me, he is the very definition of what an "actor" should be.
Joel Torre is truly one of a kind — a man who has led countless critically-acclaimed films and tackled so many challenging roles with grace and mastery.
Hoping to meet him one day! 🎭
